When we moved into our new house we decided to mainly buy a lot of new furniture, because we simply didn’t have much from before and suddenly merging two homes into one. We sold, we gave away and we ordered new. And with me being very much like “get things done now or never” I pushed hard to get it all done at once including ordering online! (ps. You can find my review on “best online furniture shops” here).
But sometimes I have a tendency to do things too fast and forgetting the pleasure of going to a store and buy something I can see and touch. And, as a confirmation to that; my favourite things in our home today are the two things that I had time think over, to really want and to consider if it was worth it. I’ve realised that it is the process of buying and experience that really matters and what makes things special, especially when buying luxurious and expensive furniture. Even if I love ordering online, click click, the decision making becomes very short and the story behind “how you bought” something is inexistent, and our memories and events behind a certain thing is sometimes THE things that makes it so special and not the product itself.
My favourite furniture pieces in our home are our Vitra chairs and our Super Ellipse table was bought in Sweden. My mom convinced me to join her to the well known Furniture store Lammhults in Gothenburg as I had said that I wanted the same table as in my parents house. I thought easy peasy, but I was wrong. It is a super Ellipse table and comes in a range of mathematical sizes and what I thought looked big in this shop in fact today looks small in our house. Ha! Apart from being very functional and stylish, I love the memory of buying these furnitures. When we discussed, looked at sizes, decided and order, how they told us the production times and later on organised the long transportation. So for furture furniture, I do beleive I will buy mostly in shops to get the exeprience!
