Lately we have been shopping furniture online, something which I have never done before as I like to get a feeling for the furniture. But as our lovely Switzerland doesn’t have much to offer when it comes to interior I thank the internet! The only problematic thing is the delivery and the very messy tax payments; some wants cash, some send you emails and some call you. Gosh! Any how, it works if you are somehow flexible to be home when firms deliver.
So personally, which are the “best online furniture shops” and witch “furniture shops deliver to Switzerland” and where to buy furniture in an “online Scandinavian furniture shop”. I will give you the four ones I have used, all in different price segments and locations in Europe. Here we go!
Svenssons Lammhult (Swedish)
This is my all time favourite Scandinavian furniture store! My mom introduced me to the shop last year when I wanted the same table as in my parents house. They have a fantastic selection of Scandinavian classic furniture and timeless pieces. It is pricy. They ship abroad and to Switzerland but have no standard routines for this, therefore it is useful to give them a call before ordering in order to clarify taxes and import. The delivery went well and they used a local Swiss shipping firm that were friendly and came on time. Tax wise the customs was rather hectic and called me the same day the goods arrived at the swiss boarder in order to pay as fast as possible to release the truck. They stressed me and said I needed to do it within the coming hours so the truck could go, however, it took another 2 days before we got the goods delivered. But this is rather to blame the swiss customs for and not Svenssons i Lammhult. All in all, good service and good communication.
The german digital furniture shop number one! I like to shop from here as I find the founder Delia Fischer a very hardworking and inspiring person. In addition, the furniture selection is over the top great! I have subscribed to Westwing’s newsletter and receive an email each morning with their upcoming sales. Apart from a very smart way to sell more, the sales does actually make sense and the prices are fair. We have sofa tables and carpets from Westwing. Westwing is used to ship to Switzerland and there is nothing to complain about in any led of the logistics. Easy, affordable and stylish.
So nice but so complicated. I found Houseology a couple of months back when I was helping a friend to decorate his chalet. I was particularly looking for a lamp suitable for a mountain chalet when I stumbled across the luxurious English online furniture store. I think I used almost a whole weekend only scrolling around on their website and the furniture is absolutely adorable. On top of that, I came back from a short holiday in Norway, Oslo where I had discovered the furniture brand Eicholtz in a shop. Unfortunately, I couldn’t purchase anything in Oslo as I would have needed to take it in the airplane and the woman in the shop was unsure where else to buy it. To my luck, Houseology sells Eicholtz! I pinned down our selected goods all to my hopping bag and was about to press check out when I saw the shipping costs. I had a heart attach. The shipping costs were a third of the value of the total order and suddenly it became so expensive I thought about cancelling the whole order. Then I decided to write to the Houseology and tell them about my matter and the day after we had come to an agreement regarding shipping and a much more affordable price. So lesson learned; furniture shops ALWAYS want to sell and have BIG margins to adjust on. Shipping: terrible, and we are still waiting for some of the goods to arrive as they had forgotten our lamps. Tax wise: came via email and easy payable. Summarised I think the shopping experience was a bit brutal, but as now know how to deal with it I can order again.
La Redoute (French)
Feels a bit like shopping furniture in Coop Home delivery, you have a small selection of furniture mostly pretty ugly but some of the pieces are stunning. Most are affordable but once it comes to their nicest pieces it gets pricy. Customer service is the worst I’ve experienced but I didn’t expect any different, shipping: super duper quick and almost the next day. Tax wise we arrived a bill with the goods and easily paid it. Super smooth, but just note that the French site has much nicer pieces and less pricy, BUT these ones cannot be ordered to Switzerland. So make sure you’re on the right site as I firstly did the mistake of selecting items in the french site and realised only in the end that I couldn’t order it —> i.e. The site does not automatically realise your location.
That is all! And I have many more sites I could talk about from which I have not order anything from but has a good selection. But that will be another time! HUG!
